About Us

The Deleuze New Music Collective is a nationwide instrumental ensemble, driven by goals inspired by the philosophical ideas of Gilles Deleuze. Its primary objective is to bridge the gap between young composers and the professional field of composition by providing performance opportunities and challenging the dogmatic, linear thinking that is often prevalent in new music circles. In doing so, we hope to expand the music and arts hub around the world and promote the creative voices of young composers.

Gilles Deleuze was a 20th-century French philosopher known primarily for his groundbreaking contributions to aesthetics and cultural theory. His ideas emphasized the concepts of difference, multiplicity, and becoming. Deleuze challenged traditional ways of thinking and offered new perspectives on various aspects of the human experience, including art and creativity.

These ideas have deeply shaped the mission of the Collective. By embracing the concepts of difference and multiplicity, we seek to push back against the dogmatic, linear thinking often associated with contemporary music. Instead, the collective encourages diverse and innovative approaches to composition, fostering an environment that supports experimentation, exploration, and the discovery of new artistic paths without shunning traditional methods of composition.

Furthermore, Deleuze's emphasis on becoming and the potential for transformation informs the collective's commitment to nurturing the creativity of incipient composers. By providing performance opportunities and fostering an inclusive space, the ensemble aims to empower young composers to develop their artistic identities, contribute to the future of new music, and actively participate in shaping the evolving landscape of contemporary composition.
